Christmas in Málaga: the Calle Larios lights and winter sun

Updated October 4, 2026

Málaga has become one of Spain's favourite Christmas destinations thanks to the light show on its main street — and to December days that are often sunny and mild enough for a walk on the beach.

The Calle Larios lights

Every evening during the season, Calle Larios is covered by a canopy of lights that comes alive with music in a short show, repeated several times a night. The lights are usually switched on in late November and stay until early January.

Markets and nativity scenes

Christmas stalls with crafts, decorations and sweets usually set up in the centre, around the Paseo del Parque. Large nativity scenes (belenes) are displayed in the city hall and in churches around the old town.

Verdiales and the Three Kings

On 28 December the Verdiales festival fills the Puerto de la Torre district with folk bands in colourful flowered hats — one of Málaga's oldest traditions. On 5 January the Three Kings parade through the city centre.

Winter sun

December days are often around 17 °C. A sunny walk along La Malagueta beach and the port is a perfect break between Christmas markets — the sea itself is cold.
