Halal food in Madrid: restaurants, mosques and tips
Updated October 4, 2026
Madrid has a large Muslim community and plenty of halal food — you just need to know where to look. Lavapiés, south of the centre, is the easiest place to start, with Moroccan, Middle Eastern, Pakistani and Bangladeshi kitchens side by side.

Good to know
- Spanish tapas often contain pork: jamón (ham), chorizo, morcilla and lard (manteca) in pastries. Ask “¿lleva cerdo?” (does it contain pork?).
- Look for “carne halal” or “halal” signs on butchers and kebab shops, especially in Lavapiés.
- Some large supermarkets have a halal section; Moroccan and Turkish grocers sell halal meat and sweets.
- Seafood, paella de marisco, tortilla de patatas and grilled fish are pork-free Spanish classics — still ask about the stock and the oil.
